Question: What is remapping or remap of an ECU?
Answer:
ECU remapping/tuning is safely fine tuning the vehicles ECU to enable it to perform more efficiently. SPB recalibrate the software on the ECU. Some of the main benefits of this are improving your vehicles fuel economy by up to 20% or increasing power up to 40%.
Question: Will remapping my ECU damage my engine or shorten its life?
Answer:
No. Not at all. Remapping is safe to do. All of our remaps are designed specifically to improve the performance of your vehicle whilst remaining within the tolerance/specifications of your vehicle components.
Question: Can a remap be reversed?
Answer:
Yes. We make a back up of your vehicles factory file/software from the ECU and we hold on to it just in case you change your mind or require the vehicle returned to its original state.
Question: Do I need to bring my car to you and leave it?
Answer:
SPB remapping services are provided as a mobile service. This means that we come to you and bring the equipment with us.
Question: What is the difference between a Stage 1, Stage 2 and a Stage 3 remap?
Answer:
Stage 1:
A stage 1 remap is basically suited to a standard or moderately modified vehicle. The benefits from this type of remap include; increased power, torque, throttle and fuel savings.

Stage 2:
A stage 2 remap builds on a stage 1 by creating further increases in power and performance. A stage 2 is where further modifications start coming into play. The basic requirements for a stage 2 are commonly, an upgraded intercooler, air intake and exhaust system.

Stage 3:
The stage 3 remap will give you the most power and performance that you can get from your vehicle however it will also requires the most modifications/upgrades. These will be things such as; turbo, injectors and possibly engine internals.
Question: What is a fault code/dtc delete?
Answer:
Simply put, it is permanently removing fault codes from the engine management system. By permanently removing the fault code, we can prevent the dash lights from coming up and stop the vehicle entering limp mode.
Question: What are your payment options?
Answer:
At SPB remapping, we have multiple options available at the checkout for you. You can book online and choose to pay either online or in person. The payment options to pay in person are via cash or bank transfer. The payment options online are; the full balance via our secure payment portal or Klarna. You can also split the payments by using Klarna to checkout and choosing to split your payments over a longer length of time.
Question: Do I need to bring my car to you?
Answer:
SPB ​provide mobile remapping services in Sheffield, Rotherham, Chesterfield, Doncaster & Barnsley. You do not have to bring your car to us here at SPB. We will provide our remapping service fully mobile and come to you so you can sit in the comfort of your own home.
Question: What is an ECU?
Answer:
ECU stands for Engine Control Unit. An ECU is like the brain of a vehicle. All vehicles have an ECU. The data file stored on the ECU tells the engine how to run etc. We connect to the ECU by connecting to the vehicles OBD (On-Board Diagnostic) port, bench tuning or by adding a plug and play module kit.
Question: How long does it take to remap a car?
Answer:
It can take anywhere between 30 minutes to 2 hours. This does depend on the engine type and the manufacturer or parts fitted etc.
Question: Do I need to tell my insurance if I have a remap?
Answer:
It is always advised to inform your insurance when a vehicle has been remapped as this is considered a modification for insurance purposes
Question: Are you able to remap my car?
Answer:
SPB can remap most cars due to the equipment that we have. There are occasions when we may not be able to remap your vehicle mobile but we will discuss this with you.
Question: Do you provide the modifications needed for a stage 2 or 3 remap?
Answer:
No. As we are a mobile remapping service, we cannot provide a mechanical service to change or upgrade the parts on your vehicle. Your local garage will be able to take care of this for you.
Question: Can you delete and remove my DPF?
Answer:
We are not able to remove your dpf however we are able to delete the dpf from the ECU which effectively tells the brain that it is no longer there. To remove your DPF, you would need to contact a local garage.
Question: Can my car or van be remapped?
Answer:
At SPB, we often get asked whether we can cover certain vehicles so we'll go through this here. This isn't a silly question as it can vary from place to place. All ECU specialists carry different equipment for remapping your vehicle. It is for this reason that some places will be able to remap your vehicle and some wont. There are however many places that have all the equipment to remap 99% of cars.
